It is so easy to have a distorted view of reality. Just become so unhappy and sad over how life has happen. And when that image we have of our successes and achievements gets too blurry then it is very hard to see the truth. There are times when it pays to jut try and get to the reality of our lives. Not to see it only in terms of what we didn’t’ achieve. To look at the positive aspects that were obtained more than what we didn’t have come true. It is too easy to get caught up in being a hard critic or have way too many regrets. Then lose sight of what was we do have and also what is good about those items. And to be truly grateful for all the blessings that did come in one’s life.

So take time to really look hard at life. Were the objects and goals one had truly realistic? Was that honestly something a person could actually have achieved? And to also not get to a point where one makes excuses for life. The key is honesty in both assessment and what is hopeful. It is very important to avoid such thinking that there is no chance to change. As if one is stuck in a prison with no escape. That only helps to contribute to depression. True, maybe life is other than perfect. Perhaps one didn’t get that job or new car dreamed about. Or the house or other items one thought were deserved. Yet what did get obtained? Can one truly look at what has with joy?

Those are all part of the questions that come with the search. Then one must take time and really dig deep into one’s identity. Such a process can’t be rushed. It requires patient and understanding. Plus to appreciate how such unrealistic views might be a cause of depression. That will help in looking at what one can honestly plan for future changes. One can also make a list of the assets in life such as talents and skills. They can be a bridge to possible change.

For nothing will build a good mood more than the idea of improvement. Have a chance to look at the things that make you sad and know they make be altered. And to also be able to truly gaze with clarity at one is already there and know what is very good in it. Sometimes that will really be hard to do, but once one takes the time it can be so worthwhile. Just trying to explore what is with more honesty.

With little steps one can make great strides. Taking a fresh look at the areas of life that might have been depression effects will be a good place to start. Just reflect and really question why something makes a person feel sad. Is there some other cause that contributes to that feeling? Or is it something one can change with the right effort? How easy it is to just give up and say it has to be that way as an excuse for not trying.
