Question:

I assume he is seeing a doctor, so here’s just my 2 cents worth as a victim of migraine. I, too, suffer with the visual effects of migraine (as well as other effects) since childhood.   I, too, have not had any success with conventional (drug) treatments; although I got so depressed at one time I started taking Serzone which definitely helped with the depression, and may help slightly with the migraines.   My only partial success comes from avoiding my triggers (and the hard part is identifying them).   It is impossible to avoid the effects of thunderstorms, smelly people (everyone sometimes needs a service person), the neighbors dryer vented outside with fabric softeners and tide, and other things I can’t keep out of my life.   I try to keep them to a minimum. Non-typical things I do:  Vitamin E helps me detox faster, and yoghurt seems to boost something.  If I’ve eaten something I shouldn’t have (all dyes, preservatives, artificial ingredients) Alka-Seltzer Gold (has to be the Gold, don’t know why) helps if I take it soon.   Anyway, it is hard for me to identify my triggers because of the effects migraine has on me (forgetfulness amongst others) and so it is very helpful to have someone around who can help remember what I was doing/smelling/tasting.       Do you have any idea what your son’s triggers are?   You also say he gets visual disturbances, but try to help him notice emotional, hearing, taste and smell disturbances as well to help identify what type of migraine he suffers.    He is very lucky to have your help and you are lucky to know he is suffering migraine and not just an overactive imagination. Good luck to you both. Pb – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My son suffers from the visual effects of migraine and has tried any number of remedies with no consistent success. Does anyone know of a UK support group, preferably attached to some kind of research effort? I’ll let you know how he gets on. Good luck to everyone who is afflicted – I’ve been lucky and avoided it all – so far! Gordon Clifton

From (not so) sunny Arizona, USA, sorry but I don’t, but just wanted to wish you and your son the best of luck.  I know there are some members here who are from the UK, so maybe they can help you. Best of luck and God Bless you and yours.
