Question:

Hi, Judy Hearing voices has not typical of  anxiety disorder and, AFAIK, as a result of the medications. My guess is that you are also experiencing the onset of another disorder, possibly schizophrenia. I don’t know anything about the meds. used to treat that but ask at:     alt.support.schizophrenia All the best Ian    Ian<<atdragoncon<dotnet – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -My anxiety disorder has led to me becoming uncontrollable, hearing voices that tell me to kill people ( I tried to kill my doctor). snipped Has anyone else heard voices like that, and what meds have helped you?  thanx for any replies. jt

I have since dropped that doc and am now weaning off of risperdal. Why would risperdal be given to a person with anxiety/panic? I mean I don’t hear voices, I just panic.

One may well wonder. Risperdal is known to *sometimes* be of some use to panic/anxiety sufferers but it’s a med that shouldn’t be prescribed as first choice if the diganosis is PD. I think your *other doctors* are right. Philip – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – judyth schreef: My anxiety disorder has led to me becoming uncontrollable, hearing voices that tell me to kill people ( I tried to kill my doctor). Finally one psychiatrist put me on Risperdal, which have pretty much stopped the voices, plus activan 3x a day, paxil and buspar.  I tried Klonipin but had a severe reaction to it, severe anxiety.  I have been on a lot of different meds, including Serzone.  Risperdal is the only drug that has seemed to help me, now I have mild anxiety, still suffer from anxiety attacks, but they are not as bad.  Cannot work, am on total disability, really would like to go back to work some day.  Has anyone else heard voices like that, and what meds have helped you?  thanx for any replies. jt  Hearing voices is not a symptom of an anxiety disorder. Risperdal helps you probably because it’s an anti-psychotic. I am happy that it works for you. Philip

judyth schreef: I realize that hearing the voices is a dissociative disorder, but I also have severe anxiety, so I am trying to find others with both, and find out what meds have worked for them, and if I can ever return to a more normal life (go back to work).  Even though I am much better now, I still suffer from anxiety attacks mildly, and cannot drive because of all the meds I take.  I would like to get off of some eventually (don’t know if that is possible).

Dear Judyth, It’s easy to understand that. But it’s difficult to answer. Maybe you should see if there any newsgroups on Usenet that could be of more help to you. Anti-psychotics are sometimes given to anxiety / depression sufferers as well. I was tried on Thorazine and Mellaril at different points, both of which only made things apparently worse.  I don’t hear voices either, and my diagnosis is Major Depressive Disorder with PD and OCD. These meds have helped some, but they seem to have a much higher incidence of negative side effects than some other classes of drugs, IMO. — Kathleen D "Hope is the thing with feathers" — Emily Dickinson

Response:

did your doctor mention anything about schizophrenia?  Voices are a very common factor in that disease.  If that is the case, I would be way out of my element to help you with meds, but I would suggest asking your psychiatrist about it more.  In addition you could probably find some good info on it on the Web. Is that the only med you are on, do you have anxiety also, if so is it severe and what do you take for it.  Do you have side affects from Risperdal? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I am dissociative and hear my own inner voices; most of the time it is just chatter. Hi Judyth :) I have personally never had what you are describing but I am glad you found something that helps it. I take Valium for my PD….is Klonopin the only benzo you have tried? When I first went to my Dr. I was placed on Lorazapam and after 3 days of it 3 times a day I became very depressed…we had to stop the med right away and the depression lifted. This is not something that happens very often. I was then switched to Valium, I was afraid it would do the same thing but it didn’t. It has worked very well for me. So like some of the AD’s the benzo’s can even be a YYMV thing…one may not work but another will…just a thought and maybe something to talk over with your Dr. Blessings Kelly – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My anxiety disorder has led to me becoming uncontrollable, hearing voices that tell me to kill people ( I tried to kill my doctor).
