Dominick, Why don’t you tell us what’s going on with you. I’m not real sure of the signs of psychotic depression, but I would imagine that it includes depression along with delusions or paranoia or some other psychotic symtom. I don’t know about whether or not ECT will help (I’m really helpful, huh?), but my understanding is that ECT is generally a last resort – after traditional methods (therapy, meds) have failed to impact the depression. However, if it’s bad enough that your doctor is talking about ECT, then he/she must believe that it will help. ECT can be a lifesaver for some people, but you have to be prepared for memory difficulties afterward (usually everything resolves within a few weeks, but I’ve read of people losing recent memory and not recovering it – definitely talk this over with your doctor to find out if it is accurate or not – seems to me that if the depression is bad enough to warrant ECT, a few memories are worth getting your life back, but that’s just my opinion.). Dominick, You are very underweight and your body has not been getting proper nourishment for so long, it is no wonder you are depressed. I do NOT recommend ECT for you. You need to address your eating issues and gain some weight back. That should help a little. Medication will probably help, too. Why aren’t you in the hospital yet?
