panic attacks? help please,

Question:

I was told that by at least three health care professionals, while an in-patient. It’s obviously at least a commonly-held belief in the psychiatric services. Where they get their data from, I don’t know. Right, so it’s a rumour. Fair enough. But let’s call it that.

It has to fit with what they see on the ward. That makes it better than a rumour, surely? Of course, observationally, we’re only talking the severe end of the illnesses, and only East Leeds, which may a statistical freak. —          The opinions given above may be mine. They might also            just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Response:

Anxiety *and* depression is more common than either on its own. I’ll take your evidence on that.

Response:

That sounds awful but why have you posted about it in a depression newsgroup? because i’m depressed and that’s what causes it, so i thought other depressed people would understand better.

Anxiety *and* depression is more common than either on its own. Can’t help about your particular symptoms, though. My panics are very different. —          The opinions given above may be mine. They might also            just be what I feel like saying right now, okay?

Response:

alt.support.depression: lately i’ve been experiencing rather many panic attacks.

snip Hello Sarah :) ) I think it would be a good idea to tell your doctor what is happening. — —  Whiskers

Response:

I was having panic attacks also for a while.  I haven’t had one lately.  My symptoms were very similar to what you describe.  I don’t know if it has any connection but it I noticed that when I was coming out of a particularly rough "down" phase.  Then,  they just stopped.   Of course (thank God) my hubby clued in on what was happening and was very supportive. I hope you feel better.  This may be the "pot calling the kettle black" but try not to worry. Like a kidney stone, this too shall pass. : ) — TMC If Sad-dam wants a nuke then let’s give him one.  One is all it will take.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – lately i’ve been experiencing rather many panic attacks. it feels like blood is rushing up my head and makes part of my face numb. my eyesight becomes blurry and my right pupil is dilated. there is no pain, just odd sensation. this whole thing lasts for around 40 seconds and afterwards only the dilated pupil remains. i have no headaches normally. the reason i know it’s a panic attack is that i realize that i provoke these symptoms myself when i work myself up over things. it never happens unless i have problems (or try to think about NOT having it) any of you know this description? maybe my blood pressure is too high? the dilated pupil usually takes days to return to normal state. it’s not fully dillated but bigger than the other by far. i’ve heard that both pupils get dilated while in a state of anxiety but it’s odd that it’s just the right one for me. thanks.
