Question:
I have been depressed for years. Now it seems my husband is depressed, too. He is even losing his appetite for work. That is really alarming as work has always been the big thing for him. I don’t know what to do. I will talk to him and suggest that he get professional help. But I feel I should do much more. To make life easier for him. To show him love and affection. But I am so tired myself. And we are not very close. Our marriage is not in a good shape. My feelings about him are totally mixed up. So are his feelings about me. I’m also worried about our 4-year old daughter. How can she survive with two depressed parents? She is already showing symptoms of feeling unsafe. We are not violent. We don’t even quarrel and shout very much. But she notices our worry and anguish. And when down we are often somewhat blind for her needs. And we are always tired and often ill. Please, God, help us and all people in similar situation. Merja

Thanks for your response, Melia. I’ve been on mild medication half a year now, and it does help some. But it cannot make miracles. You take care, too. Merja

My hubby and I are in a similar situation but anti-depressants (ad’s) have seemed to help us in coping with our depression. We have a 4-yr-old son whom I worry about constantly mainly because I see him trying to get away with things especially around women. This all started when I was hospitalized in July of 1999. I still struggle with the depression on a daily basis. I also struggle with the anger around certain events and people in my past. A good psychiatrist (pdoc) has been eccential for me. One that I feel safe with and that cares to understand me. I also have had therapy in the past. Anyway, I hope this helps and I hope my husband chimes in when he gets a chance.
