Question:
I am a late middle-aged guy that has suffered from severe depression and shyness for all of his life. I never was very good socially, but in the last 10 years I have isolated myself from all social contact. I am currently in treatment for depression, and am being treated by a psychiatrist. He has suggested that I start to widen my social horizons, but I am totally stumped as to where to go to meet people. Hopefully including single women. I know that this complicates things, but I am totally non-religious and not a drinker, nor am I interested in sports. Which leaves me nowhere to go. Please help me, if you can, overcome my depression and shyness. I can only progress by pushing my limits, which means that I must meet people. I would appreciate any suggestions, from anyone. Where do people go to meet other people? Preferably singles meeting singles. I am not asking you to name a specific place, only generic categories, or types of places. Hopefully places or activities that I might participate in or go to at least weekly, maybe daily. I most likely do not live in your area, so specific names would do me no good. However, if you live in S.E. Michigan, place names would be appreciated. PLEASE do not respond by posting a reply to this newsgroup. PLEASE respond by email only. My email address is pt…@hotmail.com. Thank you
Response:
Wow Dad and Dave you both described me! I wasn’t always shy, but one day I realized that I was. If you want to meet single women, go where they go. Bingo, laundaury mats (we gotta do our laundaury too) and where you feel comfortable. Go out to parks for walks, walk the dog esp small cute ones. Even if you don’t meet any women you’re getting out. Take it slow and easy, don’t rush and realax. Bill
