Could I have been mis-diagnosed.
Question:
Yes, you can take Lithium while on some antidepressants. It’s supposed to make them more effective for some people, I think. Anxiety and depression are caused by the same neurochemicals in the brain, and are both treated by the same medications. Perhaps you ought to stick to what you know? Paul thinks you’re being helpful. I think being honest is better in the long run.
I honestly believe what I am saying is correct. And I have briefly studied basic neurobiology, so I do know some of what I’m talking about. If what I’m saying is incorrect, please correct me. I’m just giving my opinions, and since nobody else has answered the post (at least on my server), then surely some well intentioned advice is better than getting no answer at all. I’ve never claimed to be a health care professional, and I think I made it clear that what I was saying was second hand information, not necessarily gospel. The main thing I urged Paul to do, if you actually read all the posts, was to seek help from a psychiatrist and a therapist. Kylie.

Kylie: Is maybe a Anti-anxiety med like lithium possible with the Anti-depressants?
Yes, you can take Lithium while on some antidepressants. It’s supposed to make them more effective for some people, I think. My pdoc was once going to try it. Is that what you were asking? You waited 3 years before you found a effective Anti-D? You are a trooper aren’t you?
I had some success with some, but they wore off or the side effects were too bad. The one I’m on now (sold as mannerix in Canada) is working well for the depression but my pdoc told me today to reduce the dose slightly because he thinks it might be contributing to my increased anxiety. Overall, I’ve made a lot of progress over the 4 years since I was diagnosed, due to meds and a lot of therapy. Maybe I need treatment for my lack of endurance and patience. I’ve been on 4 Ado’s so far and still use Imovane to sleep at night.
I’ve had a lot of bad patches, and have very little patience with my meds at times. Discuss your frustrations with your doctor. I think you said you were seeing a GP for your meds. If so, I really recommend you find a good psychiatrist. I saw a GP for meds for a while, but had more success with meds once I started seeing a pdoc. I had a extremely tough time yesterday, and woke this morning at 4:00 extremely depressed and worried. I better turn this boat around or I feel like I’m going to crash again…
I’ve had a lot of anxiety and tiredness lately, but I talked it all through with my pdoc today and it’s given me new hope that a med modification will help me. The reassurance really helps give me faith that I can handle it and that I won’t crash again. Thanks for your replies Kylie, you’ve been more than helpful and kind to me..
That’s ok. I’m happy to help if I can. Kylie. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Take-Care

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Seeing how every medication they try on me doesn’t work, I wonder if they are targeting the wrong thing. Yes, I feel depressed and hopeless alot, but I also have mild-anxiety attacks. Sometimes in public, sometimes alone. Like going to the grocery store and all of a sudden wanting to run out.. Sometimes line ups in stores make me feel panicky. Talking about stressful things sends me reeling sometimes(money, kids, future). Should I be on anti-anxiety medication as well ad Anti-depressants? Darned if I know, and it looks like the Dr.’s don’t either. Anxiety and depression are caused by the same neurochemicals in the brain, and are both treated by the same medications. So antidepressants will also treat your anxiety. You sound like you may have both depression and an anxiety disorder, in my opinion. I have both also, and I’ve been told it’s quite common to have both disorders. How many medications have you tried? I lost count at eight or nine over the course of 3 years. Keep searching for a medication that works for you, and try to do non medication things like therapy and exercise (…practice what you preach Kylie!) too because they can make a difference. Good luck Paul, Kylie.
