Chronic Pain and depression
Question:
I don’t have a solution for your eye pain, but yes, chronic pain (I’ve had a chronic pain disease over half my life) and depression go hand in hand. So don’t feel weak or odd or anything like that. And I hope the drs. help you soon. — Karen C. ***just trying to stay out of my own way…

I have been suffering from chronic facial pain for the past 6 months around my eye. I have seen opthamologists and a neurologist and all I can get from the doctors is that it may be a facial nerve around the eye that is inflamed. Stress seems to exacerbate the pain quite a bit, so I have been working on learning relaxation techniques to assist me. They do help somewhat, but I am really depressed at having to live like this. The area of pain and amount of pain I feel is different all the time, and it is really affecting my quality of life. I am currently taking 150mg. of Serzone a day for the depression, but I am not getting much relief. I wake up each morning feeling fine, but waiting to see when the pain will begin. Any suggestions?
A therapist tried to teach me how to relax because I suffer from tension headaches and don’t even relax in my sleep. I have to be careful how I sleep because I wake up with bruises from sleeping with my fingers clenched around my arms. I can’t relax when someone tells me to, I only seem to be able to relax with a book I can escape into completely or when I am not thinking about trying to relax. My advice, don’t think about relaxing. It’s like telling someone ‘Don’t think about pink elephants.’ <~~ a spell to soothe the savage breast – Hexe The Pit & The Pit Web Ring: http://foodbeverage.321media.com/pit/pit.htm "Man is tethered, Spirit is free What Spirit is, man can be." – The Waterboys

Chronic pain can lead to depression most definitely. A close friend had the same problem you have, for about seven years, they eventually had to cut her facial nerve, finally ending her years of miserable debilitating pain. My friend never did take any AD’s, so I don’t know if they would have helped her depression. My wife and I both take Serzone, she takes 300 mg in the AM and 300 mg in the PM and I take 250 mg in the PM. The maximum daily dosage of Serzone shouldn’t exceed 600 mg; since you are taking 150 mg, you might consider increasing your dosage. Hope this helps. John Reyes
