Question:

Hi Amanda and welcome to ASD.  Take a look at the faq which has lots of great diet information: http://asd.dozer.com  Think about how you could improve your diet, and then come up with a plan and tell us about it.  Then keep updating us.  Use ASD for your support network.  Post as often as you need to.  If you need motivation to exercise, join one of the exercise challenges here like Destination 2000.  Ask questions.  Post daily menus if you want to get feedback.  Don’t feel like you’re alone.  You’re not.  We’re all going through the same process here and we’re all here to help.  Best wishes. Hi, Amanda, I’m new here too, so I’ll sort of ‘welcome’ you by saying that I know it’s hard to start, trust me!  It can be overwhelming to try to change everything at once….why not start by figuring out what kind of exercise you like to do, and with little way-of-eating choices, like if you don’t eat breakfast now, then start doing so.  Everyone here is really adamant about drinking water, too — I have only just started that and I am still not sure about it, but I’m going on faith. :)  Maybe it won’t seem so overwhelming if you make smaller goals within your larger goal. Hi Amanda, I’m thinking that you’re probably a stay at home mom, too.  That can be really alienating and can really be a fostering ground for weight-gain and depression unless you know some people.  I moved here (norfolk, va) a couple of years ago and didn’t know a SOUL.  I found a local mothering group and I met some really awesome women and it led to me now knowing more people here than my husband (who grew up in this area)!  This group is wonderful support and is a good first step.  I suggest that you try to find a mothering-type group in your area as well.  Online friends are great…online PLUS real-life friends gives you a really robust network. Let me know if I can help you find a group in your area! [and please disregard this whole message if it doesn't fit your needs :) ] So good to meet you! Amanda — there’s an international support group for stay at home moms called (appropriately) MOMS clubs.  I think it stands for "Moms Offering Moms Support."  I’ve seen these local clubs advertised in many of the places I’ve lived.  Contact them and see if there’s a local group or if not, possibly you could start one…. http://www.momsclub.org/ Katie — To reply by e-mail, take out all the x’s.

And yes I do get depressed which leads to eating=weight gain. I would love to find a mother’s group here in Shreveport,Louisiana.I so rarely even leave the house these days because of being ashamed of how big I have gotten. Thanks to all of you whom have responded to my post. I guess my favorite excersise would most likely be dancing. I used to like to dance alot but I haven’t done much of it since gaining so much weight. Well that’s all I can think of to post for now. If I can be there for any of you please feel free to email me I am a  great listener I am told. Thanks again for all the support. Well Mark knows quite a bit about being really bad overweight himself. When I meet him 4yrs ago he weighed over 400lbs. And I wasn’t nearly as big as i am now. Well anyway we feel inlove. And 4yrs later we are not sure how he did it really he now weighs 280lbs mind you Mark is 6′4 and has a realy huge build. His shoulders are probably close to two feet across and his wrists are too big for a watch if that tells ya anything. But when we started dating he was wearing a 58 in dress slacks and now adays he wears 46-48 in all pants. Thats a major improvement. And I am not the only woman who had noticed let me tell ya. He get flirted with all the time. Which makes me feel good since I am the lucky one whom is married to him. Respectfully, Amanda Mom to William Ellis C. and John Thomas C.

welcome to asd, the link to our faq can be found in the post to Beavis1226 from Katie.  hopefully that should give you some good information. i find it easier to have my diet buddies here for lots of reasons.  one being that if they aren’t here, they can’t convince me to skip a day and go all out at whichever food place.  that way, it’s my own little corner of the world, and i also know that those here have btdt (been there done that). good luck Julie
