a question…

Question:

As some of you know here, I am a medical student, and I am currently doing a rotation in NYC in primary care. Primary care is often chronically underserved, and because of that, we often see many patients that cannot see anyone else, either because they lack the insurance, or due to long wait times. I have been seeing more than a couple of patients the past few weeks for psychiatric concerns, and have prescribed their meds, and have set up follow-up appointments. These are patients who fall into the categories specified above, and patients that I feel will benefit by my care. My question to you-how would you feel if you knew that you were being treated by someone with serious depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidal thought patterns? Would it bother you? Or would it make you feel better understood?   Would you feel that this guy in the white coat couldn’t even handle himself, let alone me? I want to help, and it helps me to help, but I want to do the best for my patients first. I have asked my psychiatrist about this, and she thinks that it is fine. Many of us have existing psychiatric care, but I’m more involved than most. Take care, random — What you think, you become -Buddha

Response:

As long as you don’t let it interfere with the practice, it would be ok. Actually, I’m thinking someone that suffers from the same thing, but has it under control, and manages it and functions well, would be an inspiration. — Hugz, Connie=^..^=

treated by someone with serious depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidal thought pattern? Would it bother you? No. Not in the slightest. Or would it make you feel better understood?

I would think the *potential* was there but I wouldn’t want the guy to think because he knows depression he knows *my* depression. Would you feel that this guy in the white coat couldn’t even handle

himself, let alone me? He would probably be an inspiration – proof that depression is not necessarily the end of my life. Bri — Om mani p
