Depression Test

Depression can be a debilitating illness for millions of people. In fact, it is often thought of as the common cold of mental illnesses. But many people never seek treatment, and many others may not even realize they are depressed.

Depression affects people of all ages. Women seem more likely than men to suffer from depression. However, it can be a more serious condition in men. They may be less likely to seek help, and more likely to be hostile or suicidal. Child depression, teen depression, and elderly depression are also common.

What you may not know, is that there is a very high rate of recovery for people who are treated for depression. What is known as a depression test might help you find out if you are suffering from symptoms of depression. You need to talk to a doctor or other health professional if you want to get a depression test.

A depression tests will help diagnose various forms of depression such as chronic depression and major depression. Other types of depression related mood disorders include bi-polar disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and post partum depression.

A depression test usually consists of a variety of questions about your situation, and asks how often you suffer from certain depression symptoms.You may be asked to rate how certain statements relate to you. For example, you will be asked how often statements such as “I do things slowly” or “It is hard to concentrate,” apply. You can choose answers ranging from Not at all, to somewhat, to very much.

A depression test is generally used to help you measure your depression symptoms. People who are depressed can show a variety of symptoms. The most common symptom is feeling down in such a way that it makes it difficult for you to do everyday activities. If the blues don’t go away after several weeks, it can be considered clinical depression. Chronic depression is a recurrence of sadness, while at other times you may feel fine.

Depression can affect your diet, sleep patterns and energy levels. It can create feelings of guilt, hopelessness, and worthlessness. You might feel angry, restless, anxious or irritable. You may lose interest in some of your favourite activities. Sometimes you may actually feel physical pain such as cramps, joint aches, or headaches. Your job, relationships, and family may suffer. Depression may even lead to thoughts of suicide. You may not understand why you feel this way. Or you may have recently gone through some changes in your life that triggered your depression. Often a traumatic event such as a death in the family, or the loss of a job, can bring about your negative emotions. Sometimes changes such as divorce, or graduation, can lead to mental anguish.

That’s why it is important to seek help or try a depression test to help
determine if you are suffering from the symptoms of depression. If you receive a depression diagnosis, you will already be on the road to recovery. You will have help creating an individual treatment plan that will eventually have you feeling more like your old self. Treatment can range from lifestyle changes, to psychotherapy, to depression medication.
