Depression and Herbs

Herbal therapies have been used since the beginning of time to heal many illnesses. This widespread practice has not become widely known in America, but has been greatly used in the eastern hemisphere and among shamans as a successful alternative approach for many illnesses that are currently being treated with chemical drugs. Herbal therapies are proving to be successful here in North America as an alternative depression therapy to reduce stress and worry. Not all depressive disorders require depression drugs. People who have mild or moderate depression symptoms or anxiety symptoms may benefit from herbal therapies.

Use Caution When Using Herbal Therapies

The good thing about using herbs in depression therapy is that natural remedies often do not have any side affects. However, be cautious because if you are taking depression drug medication sometimes the herbal and standard medications do not mix. It is important to talk to your doctor or better still your pharmacist before combining the two. Actually it is best just to use herbs if you are not on any medication at all.

A second caution that you must exercise is that herbal remedies for depression or any other human ailment, are not tested by the American Food and Drug Association and so you must research and make sure you are using herbs from a reliable source. You may even grow your own herbs and read up on the various herbs that will work well with fighting depression.
