Dealing with Trying to Cure Depression?

Trying to deal with well intentioned individuals can become so burdensome, especially when these others really do not have a full understanding of what someone is going through. In order for family members and close friends to help cure depression they must first understand the depression facts. How does one explain that what they are feeling and experiencing goes deeper than just feeling a little depressed? This is not something easy to control or stop. The signs of depression have been there for a long time only as time continues the emotions run deeper and deeper.

Interesting is the attitude of the individual suffering from depression and trying to explain as simply as possible that this hurts in ways others will never truly understand. The family members try to remain close and keep a cheerful attitude in the hopes the upbeat attitude will permeate and entice the individual who is experiencing a mental depression will suddenly smile and be happy. To begin with the individual will need to seek the help and expert advice from a medical physician. This is where it all begins and the first thing on the agenda is a complete physical to establish health and a depression test for the medical physician to try to determine how severe the depression.

Individuals, especially women in this case, suffer from the unfortunate circumstance of a miscarriage. Family members mean well, but they really are clueless as to how deep the severe depression has affected the individual. A woman experiencing a miscarriage is such a devastating experience, equal to giving birth to a stillborn. To call it postpartum depression is saying it mildly. To have family members and close friends offer kind advice by saying things like you are young and another baby is in the future is not helping. To diminish the loss of a new life only throws the individual into a severe depression.

Individuals experiencing such a loss knows it takes a long time and depression therapy to get through this situation and when you factor in the chemical imbalance the woman is experiencing the deep depression and anxiety is next to impossible to deal with without some sort of prescription depression medication. Unfortunately there are many women in cases like these who without profession and psychiatric counseling will experience depression suicide. How unfortunate to be facing such a bleak outlook when there are so many professionals ready to offer assistance to the individual.

The best advice overall to assist an individual into overcoming depression is to seek out professional help, either through a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a religious leader, someone the individual can feel comfortable talking. Once that is accomplished the individual is able to focus on helping herself through a specific diet high in protein, such as various nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Fruit juices are good too and tasty. The right diet, plenty of sunshine, and perhaps adding half an hour of exercise each day will help.

The way in which family members can assist another family member who is suffering a depressive disorder is by trying to get them to get out of bed, get dressed and take a walk outside. Get them up and out into the sunshine and perhaps during the walk they will voluntarily open up and begin talking. This is a very difficult situation for everyone concerned, but working with the individual, having patience, and being persistent sometimes helps.
